Casa Brivio | Matteo Thun & Partners

Casa Brivio is a project born from Filippo and Alberico Brivio Sforza, developed by the Milanese architectural studio Matteo Thun & Partners, which entrusted the interiors to Cassina Custom Interiors. Casa Brivio, is located in two buildings from the 60s/70s inspired by the design language of Luigi Caccia Dominioni, that are situated just between Torre Velasca and Colonne di San Lorenzo in the center of Milan. Behind the striking façade of its buildings, the rentable rooms and apartments are designed in a classic, sophisticated and understated style, blending the Milanese experience of design, fashion and culture.

The reception welcomes the guest with a modern approach of the legendary Milanese entryways. The decorative ceiling with a rhombus pattern and particularly the wall boiserie is a tribute to the design approach of Gio Ponti. Reflecting the pink terracotta color of the exterior of the building, a cream terrazzo flooring and tropical plants refer to the taste of modernism – here Cassina’s classic furniture such as Lady from Zanuso and Cicognino’s side-table by Albini confirm their timeless beauty.

Original spiral staircases, finished in lime, perfectly recall the façade’s finishing and are decorated with Murano glass lamps attributable to Caccia Dominioni for Azucena.

All accommodations feature individual furnishings, with loose items designed by the Matteo Thun & Partners studio and developed by Cassina Custom Interiors. These items include the dining table, desk, armchair, luggage rack, nightstand, and the Bixia chair,  a collaborative design by Matteo Thun and Benedetto Fasciana for the brand. Introduced for the first time in this project, this stackable chair, made from black-stained ash wood, represents a blend of craftsmanship and minimalist aesthetics—hallmarks of Cassina's carpentry work.

In the project overseen by Matteo Thun & Partners, the materials and finishes have been thoughtfully curated by Cassina Custom Interiors to reflect the Milanese Modernist style that imbues each room. The palette showcases black, red, and dark green lacquered glass, dark-tinted oak, brass-toned aluminium, brown saddle leather, reinforced Viennese straw, and exquisite fabrics, all complemented by a meticulously crafted lighting concept. Drawing inspiration from Portaluppi's designs, the bathrooms are adorned with terrazzo

floors and feature neutral shades like ivory and taupe grey. Original Melanzana handles by Caccia Dominioni on ribbed glass doors accentuate Casa Brivio's tribute to mid-20th-century Milanese residences. With a family history linked to Milan for over 570 years, Casa Brivio is dedicated to authentically embodying the essence of Milanese hospitality and style.

Furniture: Cassina Custom Interiors

Casa Brivio è un progetto che nasce da Filippo e Alberico Brivio Sforza, sviluppato dallo studio di architettura milanese Matteo Thun & Partners, che si è affidato a Cassina Custom Interiors per gli interni. Casa Brivio si trova all’interno di due edifici degli anni Sessanta-Settanta ispirati allo stile e al design di Luigi Caccia Dominioni ed è situato tra Torre Velasca e le Colonne di San Lorenzo, nel cuore di Milano. Entrando nel suggestivo palazzo, si accede agli appartamenti e alle camere disegnate secondo uno stile classico e al tempo stesso sofisticato, che consente la perfetta fusione di design, moda e cultura. La reception è stata disegnata secondo uno stile che richiama i famosi ingressi milanesi; il soffitto decorato con una trama a rombi e la boiserie a muro, in modo particolare, sono un tributo allo stile di Giò Ponti. Il rosa terracotta dell’esterno, il pavimento in terrazzo color crema e le piante tropicali sono un riferimento al gusto tipico del modernismo; qui i classici di Cassina come la Lady di Zanuso e il Cicognino di Albini confermano la loro bellezza senza tempo. Le originali scale elicoidali, rifinite in calce idraulica, richiamano la finitura della facciata e sono decorate con lampade di Murano attribuite a Caccia Dominioni per Azucena. Le sedici soluzioni, camere e appartamenti, sono arredate ognuno in modo diverso e hanno un layout volutamente pensato per far sentire l’ospite a casa. L’interior delle camere è in linea con il genius loci e si ispira all’atmosfera del modernismo milanese di metà ‘900. Il prodotto chiave dell’interior design è l’armadio che diventa un forte elemento architettonico ma, al tempo stesso, separa la zona notte e rende discreta la presenza della kitchenette. Scrupolosi dettagli, come le maniglie Melanzana di Caccia Dominioni e il vetro cannettato, enfatizzano il concept di Casa Brivio che ruota intorno alla rivisitazione in chiave moderna della casa milanese del secolo scorso. La progettazione dell’interior guarda ai gusti del modernismo della città, incorporando riferimenti storici che vogliono essere sia innovativi che conservativi. La palette colori include delicate sfumature di rosa terracotta, avorio, blu petrolio/oceano e verde smeraldo – che ben si integra con il pavimento in legno a spina di pesce. L’illuminazione è stata progettata per far risaltare i materiali naturali come l’ottone e i tessuti. Il design dei bagni, volendosi ispirare fedelmente al lavoro di Portaluppi, ripropone un pavimento in terrazzo con colori naturali come l’avorio e il grigio fango.
