Stazione Alta Velocità Casa Voyageurs

The implementation plan for the new high-speed railway line in Morocco identifies Casa Voyageurs in Casablanca as one of the stations along the LGV line. The competition brief required the construction of a "bridge station" within the railway area, adjacent to the existing building, along with a new multi-service center. The central location of the intervention area—positioned between the consolidated city and the area undergoing reconfiguration—along with the need to progressively redefine the vast urban void created by the railway tracks, places the station's design at the core of the broader urban transformation.

In line with the most advanced European experiences, the new High-Speed Railway station evolves from a mere urban and regional mobility hub into a new urban focal point, integrating civic, commercial, and transport exchange functions. The station’s roof acts as a major urban landmark, ensuring the architectural identity of the new infrastructure is recognizable from a distance while reuniting a historically fragmented part of the city, long divided by the railway infrastructure. This distinctive element, conceived as a "sovereign shelter," provides protection and comfort to passengers, operators, and commercial activities. Additionally, it unifies the new railway infrastructure, which consists of the repurposed former station—now reimagined as a museum and showcase for Moroccan artisanal excellence—and the newly constructed bridge station buildings.

The new volumetric composition features two opposing entrance halls connected by a large volume spanning the tracks and platforms. The north atrium, facing the consolidated city, presents a more urban and monumental character, housing a commercial center at its base and the vertical circulation system leading to the bridge station level. The south atrium, oriented towards the area under redevelopment, is primarily dedicated to station-related activities, including private vehicle parking, loading and unloading zones, and intercity bus arrivals and departures.

The bridge station volume accommodates all station services, including waiting lounges, access points to regional train platforms, and exclusive boarding areas for the new high-speed rail line. The project also provides an extensive network of public spaces, seamlessly integrated with green areas, enhancing urban connectivity and livability.

Il programma di attuazione della nuova linea ferroviaria dell’alta velocità per il Marocco individua in Casa Voyageurs di Casablanca una delle stazioni attraversate dalla linea LGV. Il bando di concorso prevedeva la realizzazione, all’interno dell’area ferroviaria, di una stazione “ponte” in prossimità del fabbricato esistente e di un nuovo centro multi servizi. La posizione baricentrica dell’area di intervento, stretta tra la città consolidata e quella da riconfigurare, l’esigenza di riconfigurare progressivamente il grande vuoto urbano delineato dal fascio dei binari pongono il tema progettuale della stazione al centro della trasformazione dell’intera area urbana.

In linea con le più moderne esperienze europee, la nuova ferroviaria di Alta Velocità si trasforma da semplice nodo della mobilità urbana e territoriale in una nuova centralità urbana, luogo della concentrazione di funzioni urbane, civili, commerciali e di scambio. La copertura, un grande Landmark urbano in grado di rendere la nuova architettura riconoscibile a distanza e restituire identità a una parte di città da sempre drammaticamente divisa dall’infrastruttura ferroviaria, diventa il tratto distintivo della nuova stazione, il “riparo sovrano” in grado di accogliere e proteggere passeggeri, operatori e attività. Restituisce inoltre unità alla nuova infrastruttura ferroviaria, formata dall’ex stazione ripensata come museo e vetrina delle eccellenze artigianali Marocchine e dagli edifici della stazione-ponte.

La nuova volumetria si articola in due atri contrapposti di accesso ricongiunti dal grande volume che si sviluppa sopra binari e banchine. L’atrio nord, ingresso dalla città consolidata, è caratterizzato da un aspetto più urbano/monumentale, ospita alla sua base il centro commerciale ed il sistema di risalita al livello della stazione ponte. L’atrio sud, rivolto verso la città da riconfigurare è contraddistinto da un carattere maggiormente legato alle attività di stazione, come il parcheggio dei veicoli privati, le attività di carico e scarico e gli arrivi/partenze degli autobus extraurbani. Il volume della stazione ponte ospita tutti i servizi di stazione: le sale di attesa, le discese ai binari dei treni regionali e gli imbarchi esclusivi alla nuova linea dell’alta velocità. Il progetto offre inoltre una grande dotazione di spazi pubblici fortemente integrati con le aree verdi.
