The project included the expansion of the existing Gruppo Tozzi headquarters, located at Mezzano (RA), an important leader in the design manufacture and installation of electrical, instrumentation and power production of energy from renewable sources; the intervention led to the creation of 2 new buildings, referred to as "B" and "C", and addressed respectively to offices and laboratories and warehouses. The existing building, consisting of a 3 floor building, has been just restyled.

B Building – Executive offices - new construction

The new office building is located at connection between the existing building (A building) and deposits / laboratories (C building), located at the northern edge of the area.

The north-south orientation of that comes from the shape and orientation of the abutments area.

The building, 4 floors, is made of two parallel buildings intended to accommodate environments "noble" of the building (offices, meeting rooms, conference room), interconnected by two-hinge elements that contain services and distributive elements of connection between the various floors. The arrangement of buildings defines an interior patio of 15 mx 24 m.

The new offices are connected to the existing branch through a transparent tunnel made of steel and glass.

Great care has been taken in the design phase, the bioclimatic aspects; the building, which is characterized by high transparency of its facades, almost entirely made of glass, it is naturally protected by some ledges 1.50 m deep, which guarantees great comfort in different seasons: in summer the light sun, which has a direction more zenith during the hottest hours of the day, is almost completely screen the presence of this ledges; otherwise the winter sunlight, more inclined, penetrates through the large windows and helps to warm the building, improving the performance in terms of comfort and energy savings.

The patio floor finishing is wood, and it’s set up as a "garden enclave."

The building rises on a basement which houses the covered parking area and some services; the thin pillars, placed in the shade by the presence of the outer ledges, and the dark finish of the basement contribute to the perception of the building as an element almost suspended in the air, at a height of 1.50 m from the road.

The building is characterized by a large entrance hall with a double volume accessed by an external staircase finished in dark stone and covered by a overhang shelf; from the hall, through a corridor that borders the perimeter of the patio, you enter the rooms situated on the ground floor (conference room, meeting rooms, kitchen and dining room for managers) and the services and connection elements to the plans higher.

The remaining floors, internally divided by walls furniture in oak, are composed by modular offices. The distribution corridor is also separate from the offices through “wall case” made of oak.

The pillar structure is made of reinforced concrete beams; slabs and masonry. Internally, the floating wooden floor and ceiling metal housing the distribution elements of the systems (MEP and lights).

C - Deposits and research laboratories - new construction

The C building, located at the northern edge of the area, houses the craft activities and research laboratory, and consists of a large rectangular full height, made of prefabricated elements; The compact shape is related to the functionality of the assets located there. This building is partially internally divided into 3 levels, housing laboratories and offices connected with the activity.

Parkland

Great attention has been reserved to the design of the garden, which is placed near the railroad; this garden is part of an integrated project which also involves the expansion neighboring area, for residential use, and park of more than 3 hectares.

The nearby presence of the river Lamone, of major environmental, as well as historical witnesses, has become a key element in defining the project, influencing the choice of design criteria, related to the morphology of the soil, topographic modeling, the composition of the vegetative elements and the choice of tree and shrub species.
