Banks Street | Red Dot Studio
San Francisco / United States / 2015
We have a saying at Banks Street: 'every inch counts.' Every inch counts to the client/contractor, the engineer, and anyone associated with the job. Forced to work within the home’s existing footprint Red Dot Studio transformed a one bedroom cottage into a three bedroom house without expanding the building envelope. This project was all about getting creative with the how- how to efficiently and totally re-organize the space so one can graciously and happily make it their awesome new home. The floor-plate was bumped up, strategic voids cut out to connect living spaces, and then sandblasted and reused, rafters removed, thoughtful skylights added to usher light in, and materials carefully considered to maximize budget but also connection to materiality.
