The request to design a nautical research lab of international scale came from the Milan’s Politecnico. The Lab is composed of three entities, including an experimental lab inside the University of Lecco’s campus, a hi-tech sail boat docked along Lecco’s waterfront equipped with real-scale aerodynamic and hydrodynamic measuring tools and the third and final component: a floating platform with a double function as the mooring dock for the state-of –the-art sailboat and an information and data center for visitors. The concept is characterized by a formal and structural balance with the implementation of experimental and innovative materials derived from the nautical industry. The structure is harmoniously integrated into the context and makes use of climatic strategies to render it energetically self-sufficient and free of CO2 emissions.
