Kanton restaurant | Davide Vizzini

A young and ambitious entrepreneur commissions this project for a restaurant in which he would serve to the western public an authentic and traditional Chinese haute cuisine. It is understood that restaurant’s design will try to look as clearly as possible to the facts: a Chinese haute cuisine restaurant designed by an Italian architect in the province of Bergamo, Europe. Objects that are placed in the restaurant comes from a continent existing only in the sincerity of ideas and analyzing them carefully you will understand that they exist in no far eastern tradition.

The peculiarity of this project is the ceiling that is covered by 293 wooden tiles. In the middle of the hall 26 big globes are suspended from the ceiling. They has been made by hand in a factory established in Milan in XV century.

The Italian lathe operator has never done anything similar and no similar shape exists in Chinese traditional porcelain. Stacked on an iron shelf there is red chinese rice paper, that usually in China is used to write whishes during marriages.

On big iron plates there are lined up porcelain fragments. They directly allude to a Jannis Kounellis’s work of art that has shown the way both to the client and to the architect.
