Douceur et légèreté.

Le projet résidentiel BNV explore comment la forme douce peut enrichir le sens et l'unité formel, offrant une atmosphère apaisante et calme dans le tumulte de la vie urbaine quotidienne, ponctuée par des obstacles et des ruptures.

Le bâtiment, initialement simple et ordinaire avec sa forme en L et ses matériaux typiques du plateau Mont-Royal, à Montréal, est rénové pour s'intégrer harmonieusement dans le tissu urbain existant. Plutôt que de se démarquer de manière ostentatoire de ses voisins, l'accent est mis sur la douceur, l’élégance et la sensualité apportées par sa matérialité et sa forme, contrastant avec les angles droits dominants dans le quartier.

La façade en brique rouge, caractéristique des arrière-cours montréalaises, est repensée pour refléter la continuité de la forme en L classique. Cette courbe adoucit la transition de l'angle, créant une sensation d'embrassement et de protection de l'espace intérieur de la cour.

À l'intérieur, l'ambiance est légère et apaisante. Éclairé par un grand puits de lumière, l'escalier central en courbe se déploie en douceur, évoquant une volupté sensuelle qui invite à rejoindre le salon à l'étage et la terrasse perchée au-dessus de l'ancien garage, donnant sur la ruelle. L'intérieur lumineux, aux tons pâles et blancs, crée un fond au limite spatiale floues qui met en valeur le mobilier, les objets et les tableaux du paysage urbain visibles à travers les ouvertures vers l'extérieur, jouant sur les contrastes.

Le garage d'époque donnant sur la ruelle est relié par une passerelle vitrée entourant une petite cour intérieure. Cette cour devient un jardin secret contemplatif, apportant lumière et air tout en ajoutant de la profondeur à l'espace intérieur. Un févier d'Amérique nouvellement planté y marque le passage du temps et des saisons.

Softness and lightness

The BNV residential project explores how soft form can enrich meaning and formal unity, offering a soothing and calm atmosphere amidst the tumult of daily urban life, punctuated by obstacles and disruptions.

The building, initially simple and ordinary with its L-shaped form and typical materials of the Montreal, is renovated to harmoniously integrate into the existing urban fabric. Rather than standing out ostentatiously from its neighbors, the emphasis is on the softness, elegance, and sensuality brought by its materiality and form, contrasting with the dominant right angles in the neighborhood.

The characteristic red brick facade, reminiscent of Montreal's backyards, is reimagined to reflect the continuity of the classic L-shape. This curve softens the corner transition, creating a feeling of embrace and protection for the interior courtyard space.

Inside, the atmosphere is light and soothing. Illuminated by a large skylight, the centrally curved staircase unfolds smoothly, evoking a sensual voluptuousness that invites one to reach the living room on the upper floor and the terrace perched above the former garage, overlooking the alley. The bright interior, with its pale and white tones, creates a backdrop with blurred spatial limits that enhances the furniture, objects, and paintings of the urban landscape visible through openings to the outside, playing on contrasts.

The vintage garage/workshop facing the alley is connected by a glass walkway surrounding a small inner courtyard. This courtyard becomes a contemplative secret garden, bringing light and air while adding depth to the interior space. A newly planted tree marks the passage of time and seasons there.
