Country house Wangaratta / Australia / 2020
An environmentally sustainable residential development was proposed for a large rural block near the NSW border.
A series of proposed three bedroom houses were designed according to bushfire requirements; the main structure being pre-fabricated steel lined in corrugated steel that also pays homage to local shearing sheds and Eldorado's renowned gold mining dredge.
A striking folded roof form is reminiscent of the surrounding hills and helps to encourage cross-flow ventilation and access to northern sunlight via clerestory windows. Large overhanging eaves help define outdoor areas and provide ample shading from harsh summer sun and rainwater collection.
Colorbond steel is the preferred material used throughout for it's non-combustible properties and colour range to complement the surrounding environment. Natural bore water provides a constant reliable source and solar power is also proposed for all new dwellings.
