Petit by Sam

Petit by Sam is a bakery & coffee shop in The Hague, The Netherlands. Founded in 2020 in Amsterdam by Sam, it offers small patisserie and specialty coffee. In 2023 Sam decided to enlarge her offer, and has collaborated with Studio Ninetynine to design the second location in the heart of The Hague. The second location has bigger aspirations, besides the breakfast and all day dining, a small retail section and a workshop area are part of the concept.

Design concept

In this location besides the petite patisserie Petit by Sam aimed to have more space for comfortable cozy seats and also some space for retail and workshops in an overlooking kitchen area.

Studio Ninetynine translated these ambitions into two distinct moods, each dictating the atmosphere and materials of their designated zones.

The first one is the patisserie production and retail of the bakery goods which is translated into cool materials in light blue tones, evoking a fresh and clean ambiance. While the second one, the café, embraces warmer tones, featuring wooden benches and paneling to cocoon customers.

Location

The distinctive souls of the new location have been merged in the spacial concept of the bakery, dividing the elongated space into 3 areas: at the entrance the pastry vitrine and the retail area, a central enclave hosting the cozy café with a flexible desk for laptop working during the week and small celebrations in the weekend. At the back, divided by an inner facade the open kitchen with workshop space, characterised by tiled surfaces for a pristine aesthetic.

Art Deco Inspiration

The location itself became a wellspring of inspiration, offering decoration motifs with rounded and art deco shapes. Studio Ninetynine incorporated these elements into the café's details, including shelf holders, the water station, and various rounded accents, infusing the space with a distinctive and refined aesthetic.
