G House | Ezgi Yis

The G House, located in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, is designed by XYZ Design in 2023. Situated within the Pelican Hill Mansions, the standalone structure covers 450 m² of enclosed space and 1,500 m² of open area. The project's scope is to create a contemporary, comfortable, and functional living environment that can accommodate the private areas requiring privacy for every member of a two-generation family as well as the common areas that allow them to be together.

In the two-storey G House, common areas where residents spend time together are on the ground floor, and private areas such as bedrooms are on the 1st floor, where entry is located. The living room on the ground floor consists of dining, sitting and TV areas that open each other, and the TV area that offers a comfort-oriented atmosphere is arranged as a sanctuary that can be opened and closed thanks to the sliding door system. A similar approach is continued between the kitchen and dining area through the ribbed glass sliding doors to create a transparent relationship between these two spaces. One of the bedrooms is on this floor, while the guest WC, laundry room and technical room are also here.

A calm colour palette in neutral hues is preferred in the living space, which benefits from maximum daylight through the facade that includes three openings with an arched form of 7 meters in length, in response to the inhabitants’ demand for a minimal home. These hues are continued in the gallery space and sculptural staircases, creating a cocoon that offers a spacious atmosphere all day. Embracing a well-balanced design language in the stair railings provided elegant light and shadow playings appearing during the sunset to add a poetic touch to this atmosphere.

Bedrooms that require privacy are planned on the 1st floor, where entry is located. On this level, which holds three bedrooms and the master bedroom, the design language shares similarities while differences are only created in colours and textures, depending on the inhabitants' demand.

In the G House, which blurs the boundaries of indoors and outdoors through the wide openings, the pool is enlarged according to the needs, and a spacious living space with its garden is designed with all details.
