Vivienda PH Boris | Dodds Estudio

PH Boris is the transformation of a classic residential typology in Buenos Aires. This architecture, very common in the city, was characterized by solving a set of housing units that share the same land and access. Each one of them gained natural ventilation and lighting through internal patios while its rooms were defined by fragmented spaces. The design proposal aims to rethink these characteristics as an opportunity to create a central space that would improve the versatility of the environments.

To achieve this idea, the first step was to remove the walls separating the social areas from the central patio, seamlessly integrating the non-private spaces into a single environment with expansive views. This required new structural elements to redistribute the loads previously borne by these walls. The utility areas were discreetly positioned behind a custom-designed curved wooden structure. Simple yet elaborately detailed, this piece serves to delineate the service areas from the social space, adding warmth and character. The bathroom and laundry are hidden in a blind section, while the more functional kitchen area is located in a lighter lower part.

To provide the entire residence with more light and ventilation, the existing roof of the patio was replaced with a new one made of aluminum and frosted glass, which opens upwards with a tensioning system. It also has side windows which allow ventilation even on rainy days.

The original wooden openings were restored, and the brick vaulted ceilings, previously hidden above the ones assembled, were highlighted. The use of light and luminous colors was reserved to emphasize specific elements that refer to its history.

The palette of materials and colors was carefully designed to enhance the strength of this place. A light granite flooring was chosen to run through the entire social area, helping to integrate the space. Meanwhile, the warm wood tones present in the kitchen fixture and in the floors of the private spaces enhance the ambiance with their soft hues.

In a compact scheme, PH Boris residence creates a distinct space for living, working, and sharing domestic life.

El proyecto PH Boris es la transformación de una clásica Propiedad Horizontal de Buenos Aires. Esta tipología muy común en la ciudad se caracterizaba por resolver un conjunto de viviendas que comparten el mismo terreno y acceso. Cada unidad solucionaba la ventilación e iluminación natural a través de patios internos al mismo tiempo que sus habitaciones eran definidas por espacios fragmentados. La propuesta de diseño buscó repensar estas características como una oportunidad para crear un espacio central que permitiera mejorar la versatilidad y la amplitud de los ambientes.

Para lograr esta idea, se comenzó por remover los muros que separaban las áreas sociales del patio central, integrando de manera fluida los espacios no privados en un único ambiente de visuales amplias. Esto requirió la introducción de nuevos elementos estructurales para redistribuir las cargas que antes soportaban estos muros. Las áreas húmedas se posicionaron discretamente detrás de una estructura de madera curva diseñada a medida. Simple pero elaborada con detalle, esta pieza sirve para delimitar las zonas de servicio del espacio central, aportando calidez y carácter. El baño, el lavadero y las instalaciones se ocultan en una parte ciega, mientras que en una parte inferior más ligera se ubica el sector más funcional de la cocina.

Para dotar a toda la vivienda de mayor luz y ventilación, se reemplazó el techo existente del patio por uno nuevo de aluminio y vidrio esmerilado, que se abre hacia el cielo con un sistema de tensores y también hacia el lateral para permitir la ventilación incluso en días de lluvia.

Se restauraron las aberturas originales de madera y se pusieron en valor los cielorrasos de bovedilla de ladrillo que anteriormente estaban ocultos arriba de los cielorrasos armados. Se reservó el uso de colores claros y luminosos para evidenciar algunos elementos específicos que remiten a su historia.

La paleta de materiales y colores fue cuidadosamente diseñada para potenciar la fuerza de este lugar. Se eligió un solado granítico claro que recorre todo el área social ayudando a integrar el espacio. Mientras tanto, los cálidos tonos de madera presentes en el dispositivo de cocina y en los pisos de los espacios privados mejoran aún más el ambiente con sus suaves matices.

En un esquema compacto, la vivienda PH Boris genera un espacio distinto para vivir, trabajar y compartir el habitar doméstico.
