Drawing inspiration from the inhabitants to create the unique atmosphere
- “I get inspired by people I work with,” says Natalia Contova. “I want to create homes that will be a reflection of their owners.”
- “In this apartment, the ambience is tranquil with a lot of character and the moment you step in, it definitely makes a statement,” says the interior designer.
- The design of this home had to be minimal with no clutter, but at the same time interesting and unique. “We achieved it by keeping the walls as a plain backdrop and designing statement features using decorative finishes, wall panels, textured artwork and unique accent furniture pieces,” says Natalia Contova. “We integrated trendy elements such as curves and soft rounded edges of the furniture.”
- Transforming the space, the lamps and pendants exude enchanting beauty, showcasing exquisite aerial and shellfish forms that effortlessly add a touch of elegance and charm to every room.

Color and material palette
- The idea was to keep the neutral backdrop and to add a pop of color through accent furniture and accessories.
- “We had to work with the newly installed light gray flooring,” says the interior designer who introduced depth and warmth by using a variety of dark chocolate and espresso wood tones, combined with black marble, off white terrazzo and cream upholstery for furniture while brown leather gives a sense of drama when used on large scaled pieces.
- Terracotta, clay, burnt orange and coral act as accents against the warm light gray and off white main finishes. Against the off-white backdrop, these colors create a pleasing contrast, while the black accents from the artworks and the stunning dark kitchen further enhance the overall aesthetic.
- Micro cement finish was used for feature walls and wardrobe facades.
- Throughout the apartment, the beautiful artwork created in gypsum (soft, light-colored sedimentary rock) provides more texture on the walls.

Working with an existing design
“The fit out works were completed by the main contractor prior to the beginning of my work with my clients,” remembers Natalia Contova. “We had to revise and redesign quite a few things in order to make the design project come to live.”
