Karachi University, Karachi. Educational - Pakistan | COOOP.
University of Karachi - Faculty of Visual Studies karachi / Pakistan
Karachi University, a prestigious institution, has a rich architectural legacy attributed to Michel Ecochard. COOOP's design aims to preserve this heritage while infusing modern functionality and aesthetic appeal. We prioritize orientation, considering factors like sun path and wind direction, to ensure optimal comfort and energy efficiency. Building upon existing elements like the Brisesolei, we integrate them into the design to create a cohesive architectural language that embodies rhythm and hierarchy.
Our design philosophy extends beyond aesthetics to enhance the educational experience. Corridors feature opening walls that extend to the roof, symbolizing the students' journey through their academic endeavours. These openings allow natural light to filter in, creating a dynamic interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces. Courtyards are meticulously landscaped to provide a tranquil retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of campus life, promoting a sense of connection with nature.
In terms of materials, we employ a blend of traditional and modern elements, such as fair-faced plaster, silbatta stone, and recessed glazed windows. This not only pays homage to the university's architectural heritage but also ensures durability and sustainability.
Overall, our design for Karachi University reflects a holistic approach that harmonizes architectural aesthetics with functional considerations and fosters an environment conducive to learning, growth, and innovation.
