Living in the vineyard

Surrounded by an enchanting mountain scenery, Chur features a picturesque ancient town with old buildings and narrow winding streets, while many contemporary-designed structures are located in the outskirts. In 2015, this particular residential complex was built here, facing the Graubünden Oberland, so that residents could always enjoy a wonderful view. The authors of the project are the architects of Maurusfrei Architekten AG, a well-known Swiss studio with around fifty employees in two locations (in Zurich and Chur). Head of the studio is the architect Maurus Frei who, with his 30 years of experience in this business, declares that unique and memorable architecture stems from brilliant design and absolutely dedicated realisation.

These two ideas were actually the basis for this project called "Wohnen im Rebberg", which translated literally means "living in the vineyard". The eccentric name is easily explained by the shapes of these buildings, which recall the typical vineyard terraces.The complex, with a non-orthogonal floor plan, consists of several structures, wisely designed to adapt to and take advantage of the slope of the ground. Two of these are single-family houses, while the remaining houses comprise seventeen flats. The facades are horizontally structured and consist of window sections at different heights. Murogeopietra® was chosen for the covering of the facades, the containment walls and those surrounding the complex, using Bergamo model, characterized by dry laid regular and squared stones, which give solidity and regularity to the masonry, in a mix of light shades (mostly Bianco Terra, but Bianco Reale was also used) that makes the overall picture elegant, harmonious and uniform. The masonry was also laid on the frequent and spacious terraces that characterize the project.

The complex merges seamlessly into the surrounding landscape: rooftops adorned with lush vegetation, as well as green views and bodies of water enhance this integration, with the dual purpose of creating green areas and providing privacy between residences.

Coira, circondata da incantevoli scenari di montagna, è caratterizzata da un pittoresco centro storico, formato da edifici antichi e strade tortuose strette, mentre più in periferia si trovano molte strutture dal design contemporaneo. Nel 2015 è stato qui realizzato questo particolare complesso residenziale, orientato verso l'Oberland grigionese, in modo che i residenti potessero sempre godere di una vista speciale. Gli autori del progetto sono gli architetti di Maurusfrei Architekten AG, uno studio svizzero molto conosciuto che dispone di circa una cinquantina di dipendenti, suddivisi in due sedi (a Zurigo e appunto a Coira). Direttore dello studio è l’architetto Maurus Frei che, con i suoi trent’anni di esperienza nel settore, sostiene che un'architettura unica e memorabile derivi da un progetto brillante e da una realizzazione assolutamente dedicata. 

Questi due concetti sono stati effettivamente la base per questa realizzazione, chiamata “Wohnen im Rebberg”, che tradotto letteralmente significa “vivere nel vigneto”. Il nome eccentrico è facilmente spiegato dalle forme di questi edifici, che ricordano i terrazzamenti tipici dei vigneti. Il complesso, con pianta non ortogonale, è formato da più strutture, sapientemente studiate per adattarsi e sfruttare la pendenza del terreno. Due di queste sono case unifamiliari, mentre le restanti ospitano ben diciassette appartamenti. Le facciate sono strutturate orizzontalmente e sono composte da fasce di finestre ad altezze diverse. Per il rivestimento proprio delle facciate, dei muri di contenimento e di quelli che circondano il complesso è stato scelto Murogeopietra®, nel modello Bergamo, caratterizzato da pietre regolari e squadrate posate a secco, che conferiscono alla muratura solidità e regolarità, in una miscela di tonalità chiare (perlopiù Bianco Terra, ma è stato impiegato anche il Bianco Reale) che rendono il quadro d'insieme elegante, armonico ed uniforme. La muratura è stata posata anche sulle frequentissime e spaziose terrazze che caratterizzano l’intero realizzato. 

Il complesso si integra alla perfezione con il contesto paesaggistico che lo circonda, anche grazie ai tetti ricoperti da vegetazione estensiva, nonché grazie ad alcuni scorci verdi e specchi d'acqua, inseriti con il duplice scopo di creare aree verdi e garantire privacy tra le abitazioni.
