A new extension and complete interior refurbishment is proposed on an existing heritage house in the inner-city.
The site is bordered on three sides by residential buildings of diverse heights and density, which prompted the creation of a central courtyard surrounded by new living spaces to take advantage of the the site’s northern orientation for direct sunlight and cross-flow ventilation.
Consistent high ceilings at the rear are enclosed within a simple geometric form, to complement and avoid overpowering the existing heritage house at the front.
Proposed materials are kept to a minimum to be sympathetic to existing house while also creating a clear distinction between old and new areas.
