Ennea | Jaque Studio

Ennea is a project that is molded by the physical and climatic conditions of its site. Located two blocks from the famous Punta Zicatela beach in Oaxaca, this nine-room hotel is situated on an elevated position relative to the sea and borders a nature reserve. These two conditions, along with the architectural proposal, create an atmosphere that invites disconnection from the everyday, offering peace and relaxation, whether surrounded by the region's characteristic vegetation or enjoying expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. The architectural proposal consists of three main volumes, located at the edge of the property facing the city, with the aim of generating a microclimate within the hotel that opens towards the landscape of the nature reserve. The first volume, which welcomes guests, is the reception area. This double-height space, with bridges and staircases, is conceived as a small temple of welcome. Its goal is to create a gradual transition from the street to the gardens, the restaurant, and the hotel rooms. The second volume is the grand palapa, situated on a second level parallel to Punta Zicatela beach. The palapa, supported by exposed concrete columns, allows for cross ventilation and offers views of the central garden, the pool, the reserve, and the sea. Beneath the restaurant, the service and administration areas of the hotel are strategically located. The third volume is a rectangular prism with an open, social ground floor and two upper levels of rooms, all connected by a large helicoidal staircase made of reinforced concrete. The ground floor functions as a shaded extension of the gardens and pool area, allowing guests to escape the midday heat without resorting to air conditioning. This volume is positioned parallel to the reserve and perpendicular to the coast, aiming not to obstruct the view of the bay and to take advantage of views of both the reserve and the sea from all rooms. All the hotel buildings face a large garden, where there are two "tree house" style rooms, a bar area, a massage pavilion, and the main pool. The material palette seeks to emulate the textures, colors, and materials of the region through exposed finishes, woods, stones, and local fabrics. In a way, Ennea is perceived as an oasis within the growing coastal city of Puerto Escondido.

Ennea es un proyecto que se moldea por las condiciones físicas y climáticas del sitio. Situado a dos manzanas de la famosa playa de Punta Zicatela en Oaxaca, este hotel de nueve habitaciones se encuentra en una posición elevada respecto al mar y colinda con una reserva natural. Estas dos condiciones, junto con la propuesta arquitectónica, crean una atmósfera que invita a la desconexión de lo cotidiano, ofreciendo paz y relajación, ya sea rodeado de la vegetación característica de la región o disfrutando de amplias vistas hacia el océano Pacífico. La propuesta arquitectónica se compone de tres volúmenes principales, ubicados en el límite del predio que da hacia la ciudad, con el objetivo de generar un microclima dentro del hotel, que se abre hacia el paisaje de la reserva natural. El primer volumen, que recibe a los huéspedes, es el área de la recepción. Este espacio de doble altura, con puentes y escaleras, está concebido como un pequeño templo de bienvenida. Su objetivo es crear una transición gradual desde la calle hacia los jardines, el restaurante y las habitaciones del hotel. El segundo volumen es la gran palapa, situada en un segundo nivel en posición paralela con la playa de Punta Zicatela. La palapa, sostenida por columnas de concreto aparente, permite una ventilación cruzada y ofrece vistas hacia el jardín central, la alberca, la reserva y el mar. Debajo del restaurante se encuentran estratégicamente ubicadas las áreas de servicios y administración del hotel. El tercer cuerpo es un prisma rectangular con una planta baja libre y social, y dos niveles superiores de habitaciones, todos conectados por una gran escalera helicoidal de concreto armado. La planta baja funciona como una extensión sombreada de los jardines y el área de la alberca, permitiendo a los huéspedes escapar del calor del mediodía sin necesidad de recurrir al aire acondicionado. Este volumen está posicionado de forma paralela a la reserva y perpendicular a la costa, con la intención de no obstruir la vista en la bahía y aprovechar tanto la vista a la reserva como al mar desde todas las habitaciones. Todas las edificaciones del hotel se orientan hacia un gran jardín, donde se encuentran dos habitaciones tipo "tree house", el área de bar, un pabellón para masajes y la alberca. La paleta de materiales busca emular las texturas, colores y materiales de la región a través de acabados aparentes, maderas, piedras y tejidos locales. Ennea se percibe, en cierto modo, como un oasis dentro de la creciente mancha urbana de Puerto Escondido.
