Casa en la Sierra de Arteaga | S-AR

This project is a weekend house in the mountains of the Sierra de Arteaga, in the state of Coahuila in northern Mexico.

The house is laid out on the slope of an old orchard in mountainous surroundings, with the intention of having minimal impact on the site and natural vegetation. This solution also ensured the best views, as the orchard vegetation is much more open and lower than the surrounding forest.

The house is divided into three parts: an elongated, 40 m × 10 m rectangle defining enclosed areas of shelter, the services at each end, and a central social area around the fireplace. All these areas are connected by a long terrace looking directly towards the mountains through a sequence of beams and pillars forming the external structure of the house while framing the natural landscape.

The volume is perforated with courtyards that break up the program and bring natural light inside.

The largest of these contains a staircase leading up to the roof, where there are 360-degree views over the valley and the mountains.

The construction comprises exposed concrete walls, pillars and beams poured with horizontal formwork, metalwork details, and large glass panels with aluminum frames.

The site also contains a viewpoint and firepit that is independent of the house and an outdoor table seating up to 20, both constructed as concrete monoliths.

The house is understood as a kind of sanctuary, where its users move away from the city and meet nature. The house allows them to connect with their natural environment, generating a deep awareness of the place, resources and the world they inhabit in a safe and pleasant way. 

Although the house belongs to a family, the experience of going to their refuge in the mountains generates moments of reflection and self-discovery to each of its members, according to their ages, their roles and family responsibilities.

The house is understood as a refuge and an observatory, an instrument to observe the landscape, the mountains and the forest and feel the time passing by.

El proyecto trata de una casa de campo ubicada en las montañas de la sierra de Arteaga, en el estado de Coahuila, en el norte de México.

La casa se dispuso dentro del área de una huerta existente en el terreno montañoso, con la intención de no afectar más el sitio y la vegetación natural. También esta solución aseguraba las mejores vistas debido a que la vegetación de la huerta es mucho más abierta y baja que la del área boscosa al rededor.

Así, la casa divide en 3 partes un largo rectángulo de 40 metros de largo x 10 de ancho, definiendo áreas cerradas de refugio y servicios a los extremos, y el área social central y abierta alrededor de la chimenea. Finalmente, todos estos recintos se conectan con una larga terraza que mira hacia el paisaje frontal montañoso a través de una secuencia de marcos de vigas y cartelas estructurales exteriores de la casa, que al mismo tiempo enmarcan la naturaleza circundante.

El volumen es perforado con patios para dividir el programa y traer iluminación natural al interior. En el patio de mayores dimensiones se coloca la escalera que lleva a la cubierta de la casa, la cual sirve de mirador a 360 grados sobre el valle y las montañas.

La construcción consiste en muros, cartelas y vigas de concreto con un acabado en bruto de tablones dispuestos en forma horizontal, detalles de herrería metálica y grandes cerramientos de paneles de vidrio con marcos de aluminio.  

Un fogatero-mirador independiente a la casa y un mesón exterior para 20 personas, ambos construidos como piezas monolíticas de concreto, acompañan a la casa en el terreno.

La casa es entendida como una especie de santuario, donde sus usuarios se alejan de la ciudad y se encuentran con la naturaleza. La casa les permite conectar con su entorno natural, generando una profunda conciencia del lugar, de los recursos y el mundo que habitan de una forma segura y placentera.

Aunque la casa pertenece a una familia la experiencia de ir a su refugio en la montaña genera momentos de reflexión y auto descubrimiento a cada uno de sus miembros, de acuerdo a sus edades, sus roles y responsabilidades familiares.

La casa es entendida como un refugio y un observatorio, un instrumento para observar el paisaje y el tiempo, las montañas y el bosque.
