SITE ANALYSIS

The Olympic Valley skiing area is one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the US State of California. The design for the Peak Residence and Lair Garage is intended to convey the atmosphere of an exclusive retreat situated within an untouched natural landscape.

LAIR GARAGE

The idea for the Lair Garage, tunnelling beneath the bustling ski slopes and concealed to the outside world. Its design draws inspiration from the James Bond novels, depicted as ‘…an underground cosmos leading to a hidden and secret headquarters…’

The only outwardly eccentric feature of this subterranean complex is the Gate Keeper, or Golden Eye, visible from street-level and resembling a golden egg.

In the subterranean lair, partially carved in natural granite stone and secluded under the surface, a collection of special items and other extravagant objects is displayed.

A dynamic, rotating platform set in a glass cylinder, establishes a vertical connection to an underground exhibition space including a garage and a showroom for up to 24 of exclusive automobiles. Furthermore, event and leisure spaces can be used as a cinema or as a concert hall, connect the garage to the lodge.

PEAK RESIDENCE – DYAD OF THE OLYMPIC VALLEY

The luxurious Peak Residence represents the culmination of this subterranean sequence of rooms, replete with extravagant surprises.

The free-shaped sculptural volumes, as wooden shells evoking mountain peaks, and fully glazed fronts, open up to a spectacular natural environment, forming a dynamic and lively ensemble.

The unspoilt natural surroundings are framed and incorporated in the interior spaces.

Three architectural forms, situated on an uneven terrain, display a series of spacious, luxurious sequences: a hall-lounge, a dining area, four master bedrooms, a playroom, indoor fitness and wellness areas including swimming pool and whirlpool, as well as an underground wine cellar and a cigar lounge.

Interior materialisation can be reduced to four elements, stylistically defining the project: concrete for the underground construction, native wood for the façade cladding, steel and glass,
