Nestled in the heart of Tel Aviv, the N apartment, a 67-square-meter space, embodies a blend of history and contemporary design. This home, situated on the second floor of an aging building, underwent a transformation that redefined its structure and the life of its owner, a Tel Avivian consultant in her thirties. With a vision crafted by the talented interior designer Maya Sheinberger, the apartment tells a story of meticulous redesign and modern sophistication.

The project began with the client's dream: converting a single-bedroom apartment with an integrated kitchen and living room, including an enclosed balcony, into a 2.5-room space featuring a half-room dedicated to a work and wardrobe area. The challenge was to reopen the enclosed balcony, adding breadth and light to the space.

In the design phase, natural materials were chosen to highlight and harmonize with the original architectural elements. The spaces feature natural stone and marble surfaces, complemented by exposed concrete beams that provide a raw, industrial touch to the modern setting.

Storage solutions were ingeniously integrated into the design to maximize the limited space without compromising function. The custom carpentry work cleverly conceals ample storage spaces while seamlessly blending into the overall design. Sliding doors throughout the apartment ensure spaces can be opened or closed off, creating flexible boundaries between the public and private zones.

The flooring throughout the apartment is uniformly laid with large, light gray tiles to create a continuous and expansive feel across the rooms. This choice helps to unify the space visually while allowing for distinct functional areas defined by changes in the furniture and built-ins rather than walls.

The kitchen, forming a 'U' shape, is a blend of high utility and aesthetic beauty. It has smoked oak veneer in dark brown color and a uniquely patterned natural stone countertop that traverses the spectrum from pink to gray-blue.

The living room adjoins the kitchen, separated by a dual-sided custom cabinetry piece that serves as a TV wall. The decor includes an asymmetrical sofa in light gray with a walnut side table, a brown leather armchair, and glossy ceramic tables set against a carpet in varying shades of gray, enhancing the feeling of a cohesive and serene living space. The small balcony was separate from the living area, enhancing both light and air circulation.

The bedroom continues the theme of minimalism and functionality, featuring a floating bed upholstered in brown leather and a low bench that doubles as additional storage. More custom carpentry same color as the walls, maintaining the tranquility of the bedroom.

Adjacent to the entrance, the workspace is flanked by cabinets with clear gray glass fronts, reflecting both light and space. The work area is distinguished by a deep turquoise wooden desk and a minimalist walnut chair, adding a splash of vibrant color and modern design to the space.

The bathroom showcases a rich design with coffee-toned large tiles and a custom sink unit crafted from a red stone, complemented by black cabinetry and sleek fixtures, providing a luxurious and calming retreat.

Reflecting on the project, the designer emphasized the importance of flexibility during the renovation process. Unexpected challenges like adjusting the floor height for plumbing installations required on-the-spot decisions supported by expert structural engineering advice. This flexibility was key to transforming the N apartment into a space that feels both expansive and intimate, a testament to the designer's ability to balance aesthetic desires with practical solutions.

This project exemplifies the power of thoughtful design in transforming not just physical spaces but also the lives of those who inhabit them, crafting a home that resonates with both history and modernity.
