The Wunderkammer Residence | Studio Moto

The museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD) is since 2018 flanked by The Wunderkammer Residence, a project by architect firm studio MOTO realized in collaboration with artist Hans Op de Beeck. A villa built at the beginning of the 1930,s, transformes into a unique 'gesamtkunstwerk..’ The building is conceived as a contemporary 'wunderkammer' and houses the personal library collection of Jan Hoet (1936 - 2014) while also doubling as a residence for artists, curators, researchers and writers with an (inter) national, non-European focus. Set between the museum building from 1968, the historic Lys River and the former residence of Jules and Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens, the founders of the museum, The Wunderkammer aims to create a space for dialogue, reflection and research within the typical rural context of the museum.

Het museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD) wordt sinds 2018 geflankeerd door The Wunderkammer Residence, een project van architectenbureau studio MOTO, gerealiseerd in samenwerking met kunstenaar Hans Op de Beeck. Een villa gebouwd in het begin van de jaren 1930 is getransformeerd in een uniek 'gesamtkunstwerk'. Het gebouw is opgevat als een hedendaagse 'wunderkammer' en herbergt de persoonlijke bibliotheekcollectie van Jan Hoet (1936 - 2014) en fungeert tevens als residentie voor kunstenaars, curatoren, onderzoekers en schrijvers met een (inter)nationale, niet-Europese focus. Gelegen tussen het museumgebouw uit 1968, de historische Leie en de voormalige residentie van Jules en Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens, de oprichters van het museum, streeft The Wunderkammer ernaar een ruimte te creëren voor dialoog, reflectie en onderzoek binnen de typische landelijke context van het museum.
