M/Y Legend | Benetti

The highly evocative name of this Motopanfilo 37M is M/Y Legend, a Benetti yacht with an enchanting traditional aesthetic that conjures up the navettas of the 1960s but conceals technical and stylistic solutions that give the boat a contemporary feel. While staying true to the allure of that decade and to an elegance unaffected by changing fashions, the Motopanfilo 37M is also characterised by its large, light-filled spaces, constant visual contact with the sea and broad terraces that descend to the water’s edge.

To create this 37-metre composite vessel, as for the previous units in the line, Benetti commissioned Francesco Struglia to design the exterior lines and Lazzarini Pickering Architects for the interior and exterior spaces.

The M/Y Legend’s owner was fascinated by the Motopanfilo 37M project and wanted a faithful replica of the original concept with a few personal touches in the loose furniture and some of the finishes and details that adorn the yacht.

M/Y Legend has a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system, the technology adopted by Benetti to reduce environmental impact, in line with IMO Tier III exhaust gas emissions standards. The yacht also has a double-capacity desalination plant so that she can spend extended periods anchored offshore, a fuel purification system for refuelling in exotic locations, a Starlink system to provide constant internet access, an upgrade to the package of Miele professional appliances for problem-free chartering, and is built to meet the charter requirements of the REG Yacht Code.  

Interiors

Claudio Lazzarini and Carl Pickering have created interiors that embody the elegance of classic motoryachts interpreted through a contemporary lens, introducing a new fluidity across the internal spaces and the outdoor decks and bringing the surrounding natural elements – sea and sky – inside the yacht.

The Main Deck salon is very close to the generous beach platform created by Francesco Struglia and has sliding glass panels that give it the impression of being an extension to the external area and not a separate interior space. 

To draw guests closer to nature, the architects have also made extensive use of reflecting surfaces around the windows to illuminate and further expand the interiors. The most striking feature of this yacht, however, is the very structure of the Main Deck, which has interiors designed to suggest the skeleton of a whale, with the bones producing a sort of spatial rhythm. This architecture recalls traditional beams and invites us to dematerialise the bulwarks and let the extensive lateral glazing contain the space, the idea being to create a totally open ambience undisturbed by furnishings.

Such large spaces offer huge scope for wood and other finishes. The main wood in the interiors is Alpi teak, used for the walls and flooring, its warm tones helping to create a relaxed ambience. Wood is interspersed with other elements, such as lacquered embossed surfaces, Calacatta marble on the Main Deck, and Antartide pink marble below deck. One of the finishes expressly requested by the owner of M/Y Legend is the embossed leather lining the wall behind the bed in the owner’s cabin on the Main Deck. 

The layout features a large owner’s suite forward on the Main Deck and four guest suites on the Lower Deck, all with double beds. From the lobby, a spiral staircase takes guests up through two decks to the skylounge on the Upper Deck.

On this unit too, the architects and the Shipyard worked with Loro Piana Interiors, dressing the yacht in classic summer fabrics, such as linen in shades of white, blue and malachite.

Exteriors

Francesco Struglia’s exterior styling of M/Y Legend joins the hull and superstructure together in an exercise of natural harmony. The yacht’s silhouette is characterised by sharp lines and elegant, elongated forms. One of the touches of modernity and timeless elegance that enliven the external surfaces of the yacht is the bronze-coloured paint on the superstructure, giving the overall design an air of refinement.

There is no lack of space en plein air starting with the Sun Deck where a new “grand piano” custom sun-pad was produced at the request of the owner and designed by Lazzarini Pickering Architects. Furthremore, on the Lower Deck there’s an extremely generous beach platform for a yacht this size, with a pull-out bar to enjoy the ultimate in water's edge comforts.

Powered by two V12 MAN engines delivering a top speed of 17 knots, M/Y Legend offers excellent seakeeping thanks to an efficient hull – designed by Pierluigi Ausonio Naval Architecture (P.L.A.N.A. Design) together with the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D Department – that also optimises fuel consumption and guarantees an excellent range.

M/Y Legend è l'unità di Motopanfilo 37M con un nome decisamente evocativo. Questa imbarcazione firmata Benetti incanta per l’estetica tradizionale che richiama le navette degli anni ‘60 ma nasconde soluzioni tecniche e stilistiche che la rendono contemporanea. Motopanfilo 37M, resta dunque fedele al fascino di un tempo e all’eleganza lontana dalle mode, ma si contraddistingue anche per gli spazi molto più ampi e luminosi, il costante contatto visivo con il mare e le larghe terrazze che scendono fino a toccarne la superficie.

Per realizzare questa imbarcazione in composito di 37 metri, come per le precedenti unità della linea, Benetti si è rivolta a Francesco Struglia per le linee esterne e, per gli ambienti interni ed esterni, allo studio Lazzarini Pickering Architects.

L’armatore di M/Y Legend è rimasto affascinato dal progetto di Motopanfilo 37M tanto che ha voluto una replica fedele del concept originale, con alcuni tocchi di personalizzazione per quanto riguarda la loose furniture e alcune finiture e dettagli che impreziosiscono gli spazi.

M/Y Legend è dotato del sistema SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction), in linea con le normative IMO Tier III sulle emissioni dei gas di scarico, tecnologia adottata da Benetti per ridurre l’impatto sull’ambiente; è inoltre dotato di un impianto di dissalazione di capacità raddoppiata per lunghe permanenze in rada, sistema di depurazione del carburante che permette il rifornimento anche in località esotiche, un sistema Starlink per una connessione sempre disponibile e un upgrade del pacchetto di elettrodomestici a modelli Miele professionali per affrontare senza problemi la stagione charter, essendo costruito per soddisfare i requisiti del regolamento charter REG code.  

Gli interni

Claudio Lazzarini e Carl Pickering hanno dato vita ad ambienti che incarnano l’eleganza dei classici motoryacht attraverso una lettura contemporanea, introducendo una nuova fluidità tra gli spazi interni e i ponti esterni e facendo entrare a bordo gli elementi naturali circostanti – il mare e il cielo.

Il salone sul Main Deck si trova a pochi passi dalla generosa beach platform creata da Francesco Struglia e, grazie ai pannelli scorrevoli in vetro, è stato interpretato come un’estensione di questa area esterna e non come uno spazio interno separato.

Sempre con il fine di avvicinare gli ospiti alla natura, gli architetti hanno fatto ampio uso di superfici specchiate che circondano le finestrature, utili anche a illuminare e ingrandire ulteriormente gli interni. L’elemento che più di tutti cattura l’attenzione a bordo di questa imbarcazione è la struttura stessa del Main Deck, i cui interni sono progettati come fossero lo scheletro di una balena dove l’ossatura dà ritmo allo spazio. Un’architettura che ricorda i bagli di un tempo e invita a smaterializzare le murate, lasciando che siano le grandi vetrate laterali a contenere lo spazio, con la volontà di creare un’apertura totale che non sia disturbata dagli elementi di arredo. 

Questi ambienti così ampi lasciano grande spazio alle finiture e alle essenze. Il legno principale utilizzato per gli interni è il teak Alpi, che riveste le pareti e i pavimenti contribuendo a scaldare l’ambiente con toni accoglienti; al legno si intervallano elementi laccati goffrati, il marmo Calacatta sul ponte principale e il marmo rosa Antartide sottocoperta. Una finitura espressamente richiesta dal cliente per M/Y Legend è la pelle goffrata che riveste la parete dietro al letto nella cabina armatoriale sul Main Deck.

Il layout prevede l'ampia suite armatoriale posizionata a prua del ponte principale e quattro suite per gli ospiti sul Lower Deck, tutte dotate di letto matrimoniale. Dalla lobby una scala a spirale attraversa i due ponti accompagnando gli ospiti alla skylounge sull’Upper Deck.

Anche per questa imbarcazione gli architetti e il Cantiere hanno collaborato con Loro Piana Interiors che ha vestito gli interni con tessuti e materiali classici dell’estate, come il lino nei toni del bianco, blu e malachite.

Gli esterni

Per progettare le linee esterne di M/Y Legend, Francesco Struglia congiunge in maniera naturale lo scafo e la sovrastruttura unendoli in modo armonico. Il profilo si caratterizza per tagli netti e la barca presenta forme allungate ed eleganti. Un elemento di modernità ed eleganza senza tempo che denota le superfici esterne di questa imbarcazione è la vernice color bronzo della sovrastruttura, che aggiunge un tocco di raffinatezza al design.

Gli spazi en plein air non mancano.  A partire dal Sun Deck dove, a poppa, è stato realizzato un inedito prendisole custom “a pianoforte” su richiesta dell’armatore e disegno di Lazzarini Pickering Architects. Inoltre, sul ponte inferiore si trova una beach platform di dimensioni estremamente generose per una barca di queste dimensioni, servita da un bar estraibile per vivere con ogni comfort a bordo dell’acqua.

Equipaggiato con due motori MAN V12 che consentono di raggiungere la velocità massima di 17 nodi, M/Y Legend offre un’ottima tenuta al mare grazie alla carena efficiente – progettata da Pierluigi Ausonio Naval Architecture (P.L.A.N.A. Design) insieme al dipartimento R&D del Gruppo Azimut|Benetti – che permette di ottimizzare i consumi e garantisce grande autonomia.
