Urban landscape with a playground full of art objects | UTRO studio

The Metropolia residential development is a large-scale project. Our main task was to fill post industrial area with natural elements and create a special space for children with art objects designed by a Moscow artist. 

We wanted the territory of the complex to be densely planted with trees. Central to the design ethos was the integration of greenery into the development’s fabric. Embracing the seasonal shifts of Russian nature, our team curated a diverse selection of flora, with birch emerging as a key feature. Its rapid growth and lush foliage provided a dynamic canvas that evolved with time.

Beyond its verdant landscapes, Metropolia Residence is a playground of boundless imagination. Playful art objects were designed and drawn exclusively for the project. Altogether ten art objects were created on the basis of artist's drawings. From whimsical figures inspired by nature to abstract sculptures reminiscent of rockets, every element of the playground was crafted to inspire wonder and delight. As for functionality, the area turned out to be diverse and interesting for children of all ages. 

We also put a lot of emphasis on the landscape of the playground — it became a separate play element. Thanks to the different elevations, children can run, jump from bump to bump, and hide behind hills. While the children are playing, parents can comfortably spend time nearby: there are long benches in the shade of trees around the perimeter of the playground, and a large canopy protecting from the sun near the sandbox.
