Le studio d’architecture intérieure AFTER BACH, crée par le designer français Francesco BALZANO en 2020, a entièrement repensé cet appartement haussmannien niché au cœur du Village d’Auteuil dans le 16ème arrondissement de Paris.

Cet appartement se trouve être aussi l’appartement et le nouveau studio du designer, à deux pas de la Villa Montmorency et de la Fondation Corbusier.

Les inspirations très claires pour ce nouveau projet sont un retour à la nature et l’envie de placer l’art au cœur d’une vie de créateur. Lieu de collection et de réflexion, il a été pensé comme un jardin parisien sophistiqué, doux et précieux. Un écrin où les camaïeux de verts et de valeurs au tons ivoires dialoguent avec les œuvres d’art et les mobiliers signées par le Designer.

Le plan est idéalement calibré pour un couple avec une entrée aux allures de galerie qui dessert de part et d’autre et en en double exposition Est / Ouest, un important salon / salle à manger ainsi qu’une chambre côté Ouest et un bureau privatif ainsi qu’une cuisine côté Est. Les pièces humides sont traitées comme des meubles précieux et dérobés aux premiers regards dans l’esprit de Versailles.

Francesco BALZANO a choisi une palette de couleurs et de matériaux qui font écho au végétal comme un hommage subtile à l’architecte italien Piero PORTALLUPI, un de ces maîtres à penser : tissu vert pâle et ivoire satiné, peinture ultra matte, onyx blanc et vert sont un leitmotiv qui compose la partition de ce nouveau projet particulier et si important aux yeux du Designer. Au sol, sisal et tapis abaca, parqueterie en frêne et onyx vert pâle.

Le salon est marqué par le dessin d’une cheminée sculpturale de la collection MOSAICO dessinée par Francesco BALZANO qui répond en symétrie au dessin d’une bibliothèque composé en hommage à la renaissance italienne. La coffee table APOLLO et la table à manger sont signées aussi du designer pour cette même collection MOSAICO. Le salon est aussi doté d’un guéridon en Onyx blanc de la collection CLOUD. Des photophores de sa collection XXS en ONYX également, dialoguent avec les antiquités et les œuvres d’artistes tel que Mirco MARCHELLI, Nicolas LEFEVRE, Laetitia de BAZELAIRE, ses partenaires d’arts pour la galerie TOURRETTE dont il est lui-même un des artistes photographes représentées depuis 2023.

La galerie d’entrée entièrement tapissé de tissu en satin de coton et galons en soie, abritent un jeu subtil de portes sous tentures et pivots décorés de boutons en céramique danois. Les corniches en plâtres sont dans le caractère historique de l’appartement.

La cuisine toute en longueur se trouve dédoublée de part un jeu de miroir toute hauteur qui rythme la pièce et baigne de lumière l’écrin de pierre jalonnée d’objets précieux chinées.

Au fond sur cour, le designer y a installé son bureau où il aime à s’entourer d’échantillons, d’œuvres d’art et de mobiliers naturellement. Le bureau est notamment une pièce de sa collection de mobiliers 

MURANO II, réalisée sur mesure à cette occasion et entièrement gainée de cuir, tel un sous-main hors normes. Les lampes de sa collection LUCE représentée en exclusivité par sa galerie parisienne KOLKHOZE jalonnent l’appartement au plafond de chacune des pièces.

La chambre également tapissée renferme une niche tout en courbe ou viennent se loger de chaque côté du lit une penderie miroitée, complétée de deux tablettes dessinées en hommage à Ellsworth KELLY et sculptées dans un bloc d’Onyx massif.

La salle de bain est pensée comme un cabinet de toilette à la fois minimaliste et prestigieux, entièrement habillé d’Onyx vert pâle : un coin vasque et une grande douche à l’italienne décoré d’une fresque réalisée à la poudre de marbre par le peintre décorateur Nicolas REESE : une réplique et extrait des décors peints se trouvant sur les plafonds d’un des pavillons de la villa MEDICI où le designer sera prochainement résident en Mars 2025 après avec été retenu lauréat par l’académie de France à Rome.

Photos, sculptures, peintures et gravures dialoguent avec l’architecture des lieux : un art de vivre pour lui et sa compagne pour qui il a aimé penser ces espaces subtilement dessinés.

Le Designer y présente donc son mobilier auprès de ces clients mais qui aime surtout à les faire dialoguer avec le design Danois des années 50 et le travail de ses contemporains qu’ils admirent : Aldo BAKKER, Marcin RUSACK, Isabelle SICART et SATTIO STUDIO entres autres ...

Pour ce projet le studio s’est entouré d’artisans des métiers d’arts comme notamment les ATELIERS SAINT JACQUES, le TAPISSIER PHELLIPEAU, les ATELIERS PERRAULT. Les tissus ont été choisis auprès du fabricant HOLLAND AND SHERRY, les robinetteries proviennent de l’accessoiriste WATERWORKS, les peintures de finitions Dead flat ont été sélectionnés chez FARROW AND BALL.

The interior design studio AFTER BACH, created by the French designer Francesco BALZANO in 2020, has completely redesigned this Haussmann apartment nestled in the heart of the Village d'Auteuil in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

This apartment is also the apartment and the new studio of the designer, close to the Villa Montmorency and the Corbusier Foundation.

The very clear inspirations for this new project are a return to nature and the desire to place art at the heart of a creative life. Place of collection and reflection, it was thought as a sophisticated Parisian garden, soft and precious. A setting where shades of green and values in ivory tones dialogue with works of art and furniture signed by the Designer. 

The plan is ideally calibrated for a couple with a gallery-like entrance that serves on both sides and in double exposure East/ West, an important living/ dining room as well as a bedroom on the west side and a private office and a kitchen on the east side. The wet rooms are treated like precious furniture and stolen from the first glance in the spirit of Versailles.

Francesco BALZANO chose a palette of colors and materials that echo the plant as a subtle tribute to the Italian architect Piero PORTALLUPI, one of these masters to think: pale green fabric and satin ivory, ultra matte paint, onyx white and green are a leitmotiv that compose the score of this particular new project and so important in the eyes of the Designer. On the ground, sisal and abaca carpet, parquet in ash and light green onyx.

The living room is marked by the design of a sculptural fireplace from the MOSAICO collection designed by Francesco BALZANO that responds in symmetry to the design of a library composed in tribute to the Italian Renaissance. The APOLLO coffee table and the dining table are also signed by the designer for this same MOSAICO collection. The living room is also equipped with a pedestal in white Onyx from the CLOUD collection. Photophores from his XXS collection also in ONYX, interact with antiques and works of artists such as Mirco MARCHELLI, Nicolas LEFEVRE, Laetitia de BAZELAIRE, his art partners for the gallery TOURRETTE of which he iseven one of the artist photographers represented since 2023.

The entrance gallery, entirely upholstered in cotton satin fabric and silk braids, houses a subtle play of doors under draperies and pivots decorated with Danish ceramic buttons. Plaster cornices are in the historical character of the apartment.

The kitchen, all in length, is split apart by a play of mirror any height that punctuates the room and bathes in light the stone setting dotted with precious objects. In the backyard, the designer has set up his office where he likes to surround himself with samples, works of art and furniture naturally.

The office is a piece of his collection of MURANO II furniture, custom-made for this occasion and entirely sheathed in leather, like an extraordinary underhand. The lamps of his LUCE collection exclusively represented by his Parisian gallery KOLKHOZE punctuate the apartment on the ceiling of each room.

The room also upholstered contains a niche all in curve or come to stay on each side of the bed a mirrored wardrobe, completed with two tablets designed in tribute to Ellsworth KELLY and carved in a block of solid Onyx.

The bathroom is designed as a minimalist and prestigious bathroom, entirely dressed in pale green Onyx: a washbasin and a large walk-in shower decorated with a fresco painted with marble powder by the painter decorator Nicolas RESSE: a replica and extract of the painted decorations found on the ceilings 

of one of the pavilions of the villa MEDICI where the designer will soon be resident in March 2025 after having been awarded by the French Academy in Rome.

Photos, sculptures, paintings and engravings interact with the architecture of the place: an art of living for him and his partner for whom he liked to think these subtly drawn spaces.

The Designer therefore presents his furniture to these customers but who especially likes to make them dialogue with the Danish design of the 50s and the work of his contemporaries whom they admire: Aldo BAKKER, Marcin RUSACK, Isabelle SICART and SATTIO STUDIO among others ...

For this project the studio is surrounded by craftsmen of the arts such as the ATELIERS SAINT JACQUES, the UPHOLSTERER PHELLIPEAU, the ATELIERS PERRAULT. The fabrics were chosen from the manufacturer HOLLAND AND SHERRY, the taps come from the accessorist WATERWORKS, the Dead flat finish paintings were selected from FARROW AND BALL.
