Parral | Taller Hector Barroso
Mexico City / Mexico / 2021
The Parral Building –a studio and an apartment intended to be integrated into the urban fabric– stands on a small site in Colonia Condesa, Mexico City. The design stresses the virtues that have made the area a great neighborhood, with a booming property market. The concrete volume making up the building is divided in two to make the best use of the site, with the apartment facing the street and the studio overlooking the internal courtyard garden. Circulations are the common thread holding the program together, crossing one another and connecting at each level via two staircases superimposed on one another –although not shared– to provide a free floor plan that can be adapted to the user’s requirements. The composition of the openings provides dimensions closely related to the program of the spaces in response to different ways of life. As a result, the façade is on a more domestic scale, seeking to integrate with the exterior without forgetting the privacy a home requires.
