For this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week, Assemble have designed and built a collection of 200 modular three legged chairs and stools that will furnish public spaces in Clerkenwell for the duration of the festival. Stackable, tessellating, and endlessly re-configurable, they are both pieces of furniture and an opportunity for play. Their sheer multitude will set up absurd situations and throughout the festival their arrangements will adapt to host a range of possible uses and forms - serving as benches, armchairs, amphitheatres, banqueting halls and whatever takes the fancy of festival visitors. Built in Assemble’s workshop, Sugarhouse Studios, the chairs are simply constructed with powder coated steel legs and plywood tops.
