Type: Cable-stayed Bridge Length: 40 m, Architects: Bulant & Wailzer, (Aneta Bulant – Kamen and Klaus Wailzer) Structural engineers: Vasco + Partners Ingeneure (Lothar Heinrich) Light design: Bartenbach Lichtlabor, Steel and glass construction: Waagner – Biro Contractor: Richard Lugner Photos: Rupert Steiner, Vienna Completion 2005 Awards: Mies van der Rohe Award, Nomination 2006 ; 2007 International Architecture Award, from the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design, USA. The bridge is suspenden on two lateral cables from the building of the “Lugner City” shopping center across the “Gürtel – Boulevard”. An escalator takes pedestrians up to the platform with a panorama café. The distinguishing feature of the bridge is the ingenious relationship between the frame, structural geometry, and the cover. The glass skin is folded across the body like Origami. The lateral sides of the bridge are not parallel but slightly offset to each other, creating a unique spatial impression with an altered perspective. The counterpoint superimposition of the bridge body and glass cover is another attractive feature.
