The project consists of the refurbishment and reuse of the ex-factory complex of Redtory of Guangzhou, China. The aim is for the silo to blend in with the surrounding buildings The original perimeter wall and entrance will be retained. In the buildings leading to the silo, there will be multi-purpose activity rooms, the ground floor will be exclusively office space, while the firs floor will be creative workshop. Around the silo there will be four underground walkways with ramps leading to the main doors of the silo. The silo will be covered in corten. There will be random circe cut out of the surface. There will be beams, narrow columns and two floors within the silo but there will be no contact with the original silo wall itself. This will not be an invasive approach. We want to create a space for many separate activities with a feeling of integration and togetherness. The inside space will be characterized by many narrow columns, a large space with multi-activity boxes which can be used as eg: Office, laboratory, design, machinery, gallery, study space. Some of these boxes can be seen above the silo, and have a trasparent covering so that the night sky can be viewed, and light from within these boxes can be projected into the dark of the evening. The walls will be opaque to avoid the glare of the sun. The walls of the ground and first floor boxes will be transparent.
