Since this year’s Business of Design Week partner country is Denmark, the BODW Forum currently taking place in Hong Kong, is hosting a number of influential Danish designers and design leaders. The Danes, known for their functional designs, will share their design culture, philosophies and experiences with the BODW audience. You can see some of the companies on archiproducts, like furniture and accessories manufacturers MUUTO, Gubi, Household accessories company ferm LIVING as well as furniture manufacturers Normann Copenhagen.

The Forum which began yesterday (6th December) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai will continue until tomorrow (8th December), exploring the full scope of design, highlighting how businesses, society and culture can benefit from design.

The second day of the Forum was opened by Director of Grant Associates, Andrew Grant’s speech. His presentation on “Gardens by The Bay, Singapore” saw the British architect keep the public’s interest up as he touched on concept based architecture.

"Whether architecture, interior design, product display, graphic or pattern design, a good architect should not reject things that are related to design, as sometimes everything is one". He said.

The plenary session had talks from amongst others two international architects Winy Maas, founder of MVRDV and Daniel Libeskind, founder of Studio Daniel Libeskind. They closed the plenary session with talks detailing their work, experience and concepts for sustainable architectural development.

The second day of the BODW forum, was rounded off, in the evening, with the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Design Centre’s Awards and Gala Dinner in the conference hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Close to 1,000 guests including local and international politicians, business leaders, design leaders and those invested in design, came together to celebrate three highly respected recipients of the design awards. Graphic design legend Mr. Henry Steiner won the “Asian Design Lifetime Achievement Award” (LAA). Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance, accepted the “Design Leadership Award” (DLA). Lastly, car designer Anthony Lo, received the “World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer Award” (WOCD). The three recipients of the grand prizes were heavily applauded in recognition of their enormous contribution to the design community.
