Knippers Helbig Advanced Engineering is a consulting engineering practice consisting of a multidisciplinary team of civil and structural engineers, architects and façade engineers. Knippers Helbig provides a full range of structural engineering, façade design and geometric consulting. In 2001 Knippers Helbig was founded by Prof. Dr. Jan Knippers und Dipl.-Ing. Thorsten Helbig and has offices in Stuttgart, Germany and in New York City. Project offices are also located in Abu Dhabi / U.A.E. and Shenzhen, China. Since its foundation, Knippers Helbig has developed a reputation for highly specialized consulting services in some of the most demanding areas of façade and structural engineering. Knippers Helbig has completed numerous projects together with signature architects and blue chip clients in a variety of countries including Middle East, United States, Canada, Mexico, China, India, Germany and Great Britain. Projects encompass a wide spectrum of buildings at all scales and include various typologies such as high rises, airports, schools, museums, bridges, offices, shopping malls and art installations. Knippers Helbig is using both tested technologies as well as new engineering solutions pushing the boundaries of conventional materials such as steel, concrete, glass and timber while also using new materials such as membranes and glass-fiber reinforced plastics to create innovative, integrated and sustainable engineering solutions. Knippers Helbig is applying process-oriented computational methods, linking all design components to database-driven engineering tools such as BIM. By using parametric and generic design components a powerful time-saving data management system has been developed especially for steel and glass roof and façade structures. Knippers Helbig is integral part of the production and assembly process in many projects preparing framework and reinforcement drawings for concrete structures as well workshop drawings and calculations for steel/glass structures and facades. Professor Dr. Jan Knippers leads the Institute for Building Structures and Structural Design at the University of Stuttgart’s School of Architecture and Urban Design. This connection gives Knippers Helbig a strong link to material testing facilities as well as the latest material and design research.
