The Lindqvist Family in Grythyttan has gone from horseshoes to steel furniture. Blacksmith Carl Lindqvist began in 1895 making horseshoes. His smith-work was in great demand in the district as the emphasis on quality was already great at the time. His son Artur then followed in his father’s footsteps but was driven by a vision far beyond traditional blacksmithing. Artur’s ideas were inspired by “functional” thoughts: to create functional and beautiful things for people in their everyday lives.
For the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, Artur designed and manufactured the now classic A2 chair from horseshoe steel. The A2 chair was followed by a complete array of furniture for the garden. During the 40’s and 50’s, Grythyttan Steel Furniture grew in popularity and Artur’s son Örjan took over the operation.
