Feilden Fowles
Feilden Fowles is a London based architecture practice delivering projects in housing, education, masterplanning and the arts, working with a range of clients, organisations and institutions.

The partnership was established in 2009 by Fergus Feilden and Edmund Fowles, following recognition of their complimentary talents through early student collaborations and the successful delivery of their first building, Ty Pren. The practice now delivers a range of socially and environmentally sustainable buildings across a variety of sectors and aims to make architecture that is rich in character and distinct in identity.

Investigation of each project begins by developing an intimate understanding of both place and people; combining existing conditions with human needs, to arrive at simple, functional and inspiring structures. Form may be inspired by geology, natural history or the vernacular of an area, but is honed and refined by human necessity.

The design approach is both academic and hands-on, researching techniques and precedents while making large scale mock-ups and testing the physical and visual properties of materials. Ambitious in their service to clients, the practice strives for quality and permanence in built form, translating historic or vernacular precedent and interpreting cultural references for a present day audience.

Buildings emerge from a clear concept and legible diagram, which in turn informs and drives the detailed design. All projects are focused towards a strategy of longevity over short-termism through the use of robust yet adaptable structures. The ambition is to make fine buildings with integrity that are both tectonic in their expression and above all socially and environmentally responsible.

The practice is young and energetic with an investigational working method and an intellectual studio culture; strong on dialogue and testing ideas. Experts from outside the practice are regularly invited to collaborate and critique our work, contributing to the sharing of ideas and expertise, essential within the industry. This helps to ensure that projects are rigorously interrogated and that concepts follow through into detailed design with precision and subtlety.
